Faith That Moves Us

  • Guided by Faith, Empowered by Action

Our work is inspired by the teachings of Christ and the belief that faith without action is incomplete. At the Whitby Specialty Food Bank, we turn prayer into purpose and love into service. Every box packed, every meal shared, and every life touched is a testament to God’s calling.

  • Faith in Action, Love in Every Meal

We believe that true faith is demonstrated through serving others. That’s why our programs are rooted in compassion and inclusivity, offering:

Over 48,428 meals distributed in the last six months.

516,813 pounds of rescued food repurposed to feed families instead of filling landfills.

Programs for vulnerable populations, including children, seniors, and the homeless.

  • Welcoming Everyone With Open Hearts

Inspired by Proverbs 19:17 “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.”—we serve all people, regardless of background, faith, or circumstance. Whether you’re a single parent, a newcomer, or someone facing unexpected hardship, you are welcome here.

We’ve built a community where no one feels alone, and every act of service reflects the unconditional love of Christ.

Our Programs

Our Programs

The Whitby Specialty Food Bank goes beyond simply providing food; we’re committed to offering comprehensive programs that address immediate hunger, build sustainability, and empower individuals with skills and opportunities for a brighter future.

Below is an overview of the key programs we offer to serve our community.

Food insecurity can impact anyone at any time. Our Food Assistance Program ensures that no one in our community goes hungry by providing regular access to nutritious and culturally inclusive food.

  • Weekly distribution of fresh produce, pantry staples, and protein-rich foods to families and individuals.

  • Tailored options for dietary restrictions such as gluten-free, vegetarian, or culturally specific foods.

  • Serving over 3,000 families every month, with dignity and respect at the core of our service.

Emergency Support Program

When life takes an unexpected turn, our Emergency Support Program is here to provide immediate relief. We ensure that individuals in crisis have access to the essentials they need to get through tough times.

  • Ready-to-eat meals for those who lack cooking facilities or face immediate hunger.

  • Care packages including hygiene products, baby formula, diapers, and other essentials.

  • Focused support for vulnerable populations, including the homeless and seniors.

Food Rescue and Sustainability Program.

Food waste and hunger shouldn’t coexist. Through our Food Rescue and Sustainability Program, we transform surplus food into life-saving resources while protecting the environment.

  • We Rescue over 1.7 million pounds of food annually from local businesses, grocery stores, and restaurants.

  • Redistributes rescued food to families in need, ensuring it stays out of landfills.

  • Reduces greenhouse gases equivalent to taking 500 cars off the road for a year.

Educational Programs

Empowerment begins with education. Our programs provide individuals with the skills and certifications they need to build confidence and pursue stable employment opportunities.

  • First Aid CPR Training: Equips participants with critical life-saving techniques.

  • Food Handling Certification: Prepares individuals for roles in the food service industry.

  • Job Support Resources: Offers guidance on resume building, interview skills, and connecting with employers.

Community Engagement Initiatives

We believe that community is at the heart of everything we do. Our engagement initiatives bring people together to fight hunger and build a network of care and support.

  • Hosting food, clothing, and toy drives and fundraising events that rally neighbors, schools, and businesses to contribute.

  • Partnering with local organizations to expand our reach and provide even more resources.

  • Creating opportunities for advocacy and awareness to address the root causes of food insecurity.

  • Celebrating faith based excursions, trips, and workshops
