“Guided by Faith, Nourishing with Love”
The Whitby Specialty Food Bank began as an act of faith, a response to the growing need in our community. Inspired by Hebrews 13:1—“Let brotherly love continue”—our mission has always been about more than food. It’s about restoring dignity, offering hope, and sharing God’s love with everyone who walks through our doors.
What started as a small outreach has grown into a lifeline for thousands, serving over 3,000 families monthly across Whitby and the GTA. Through God’s grace and the kindness of volunteers, donors, and partners, we’ve become a beacon of hope for those in need.
“The Need is Great, The Need is Real.”
Changing by Faith.
Our journey began in 2011 at Kendalwood Church, where a group of compassionate individuals came together to address food insecurity. Since then, we’ve grown exponentially, rescuing over 1.7 million pounds of food annually and ensuring no family in our community goes hungry. In 2024 we decided we were going to do more.
Key milestones:
2011: Opened our first standalone location.
2018: Partnered with Second Harvest to expand food rescue efforts.
2023: Distributed over 48,428 meals in six months, thanks to community support.
Through each step, our focus has remained on serving with dignity and love.

We believe in addressing these challenges with compassion, providing not only meals but also a sense of belonging and care. Every meal shared is a step toward breaking the cycle of poverty.

We invite you to join this mission of faith and compassion. Together, we can continue to make a difference, one meal and one heart at a time.
